For some reason, the Windows minimize/maximize animation setting (in System > Advanced System Settings > Advanced > Performance > Visual Effects) keeps resetting.

It is becoming infuriating that EVERY FRIGGING TIME I restart my computer, I have to go in and reset this switch.

Anyone have this problem and/or a resolution?

mmmm, this sounds very odd searched google but could not find anything.

All i can suggest is a disk check if that fails then vista repair.

Click on "Start Orb" then click on "Computer" Then on your local hard drive usually C: "Right Click" on it and choose "Properties" Then Press the "Tools" tab then press "Check Now" under "Error-Checking" Then Tick Both boxes then start then confirm it then restart computer.

Also if that fails try vista repair using Vista disc

c'mon now - you're saying that a fragmented disk (which it's not - using top defrag tool since day 1) or bad disk (it's a new 160GB, 7200RPM drive) is causing a windows setting to reset?

As an aside, I've had a similar problem with XP (work machine), but can chalk that up (I think) to a massive amount of LANdesk crap installed by my employer.

I would also love to know the solution to this. I've been having the same problem. I keep deactivating the "animate windows when minimizing and maximizing" setting, but it keeps reverting back. It seems to do it to me randomly, even when I have not restarted my computer or Windows. For instance, I could wake up in the morning and find that my windows are animating the max/min, and when I go back in to check the settings, sure enough there is a check in the box.

It is really aggravating. _<' />

Try this: http://www.astahost.com/info.php/remove-wi...ster_t9770.html Doing that tut is also a good test to see if you have write access to the registry (which could be a cause of the setting not staying)
There is a war going on for your mind.

I believe I know what causes this.

    YAHOO freaking MESSENGER.

Turn off the option as normal (i'm sure we are all familiar with how to do that).

next, (assuming yahoo messenger is open, but minimized into your system tray), double click on the yahoo messenger icon to make the messenger appear on your desktop.

next, minimize the messenger again into the system tray.

viola, all your windows will be minimizing and maximizing their way into your heart again.

    anyone else confirm this?

I been experiencing the same problem, I tried everything and posted a similar post last night about this issue. I know it is very nerve racking. I prefer if off for a more instant response. please let me know if you find the solution.

Hi again, I think I just solved the problem. Another user suggested yaboot as the cause and I suspected the same thing because everytime I close yahoo messenger it would always hang or become unresponsive, very irritating and techy has been no help at all. But anyway...I just done this setting and now yahoo shuts down as it should. Are you using yahoo? if so here is what I done, right click the icon and hit properties, now run as admin for XP service pack 2 and disable DPI settings>apply.
