This is a Vista Home Premium laptop 64 bit. I suspect drivers, but I am getting three quick low-tone beeps on plugging in a USB tablet (or other device). What does the three beep code mean? Whenever I get the tones, the device does not work. On reboot, the devices work. Nobody seems to know what the 3 quick tones mean. Hopefully someone here can tell me.

it means the usb device isn't being recognized,

probably is drivers, but i'd also reinstall it too.

You don't say which BIOS you have, but an error code of three beeps for an AMI BIOS is normally memory related.

Check that your video is working properly.

If it isn't you'll see an error message.

Check that your RAM sticks are seated properly. If they are you could try swapping them around.

If that doesn't work you may have some bad memory or even a faulty mobo.

It is not a boot issue, I know what those codes are. I was assuming there was a similar code for USB devices. It occurs when Vista is up an running and I am plugging in usb devices like mice or a Wacom tablet (I suspect this is the culprit, but the mouse also does the three beep thing)
