Well I have a pre-existing Home network set up and when I installed Windows 7 Home Premium I did the custom install so I could get rid of vista business. Well never the less one headache gone, one headache gained. It seems that now Windows 7 Will not recognize my home network, maybe I am going about this the wrong way. Could someone explain to me how to discover my network? Also, Every time it goes into hibernation ..... when I wake it up, it isn't connected to the internet and I have to go through the "Diagnosis" wizard. Someone help me please.
Thanks,
Will

Do you have a firewall running? Look at your IP addresses by going to programs, accessories, command prompt. Right click on command prompt and run as administrator. at the dos command prompt enter the command:
ipconfig /all
Look at the IP addresses assigned. If they start with 169 you are not being assigned any valid IP addresses by your router and we'll have to examine further.

It appears you may not have the Win7 network set up properly.
You might try opening the Network and Sharing Center, and make sure you are set up on a work network, and the same network name as the other systems, since all your systems are not Win7.
Be sure you have network sharing enabled.
Setup a Guest account in all the Folders/files permissions for full control.
Then select the Share Tab and set the Guest account to Full Control.
You should now be able to see all the other system drives and folders that you have set for sharing on the other systems, and be able to view, read, and write to the Folders/files that you have given permission to Full Control on the Win7 system.

Okay I did that and it shows up as the same IP i had with vista! So I am guessing that is good. Now the problem is getting the Internet to stay connected when I wake it up and having my screen not take a long time to show all my icons/programs/everything else that I have on it.
Changed to a work network, is that what you meant? My dads Vista machine popped up.

I have upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista and I connected to the network wirelessly fine, but could not connect to printer through my maind desktop... I changed it to 'Work' rather than home and now works fine.
I do have the same problem as you though when waking up from Hibernation. It is not connected to network and will not re connect automatically. I have to actually connect it manually each time which I agree is a real pain.... so would be interested in how to correct this alsoJayne

Yes that is correct. Win7 can only see other Win7 systems on the default Home network.
There should have been an option screen to choose the network during the setup process.
After all, how many Win7 systems are out there right now that are set up on a network, compared to all the XP and Vista systems already on a Work, Workgroup, Private network, or some other named network.
I can't advise about the sleep mode, as I don't use it. A short while ago, when the settings on my systems were set to never go into sleep mode, the system went to sleep anyway.
After some Win7 updates, this no longer occures.
You should be sure you have all the Win7 updates, as they are coming very fast now.
Hope this helps.

Well according to my computer, my network adapter is the problem. I just got 27 updates but most of those are for office.

If your network adapter was the problem, you would not be able to get on any network, much less the Internet, to download any updates, whether Win7 or office.
I have downloaded and installed 80 Win7 and Office updates so far.
So if you have only updated 27, you still have a few to go.
Just some thoughts.

Do you get a mouse or anything. Try right clicking in the middle of nowhere and choose "refresh" from the menu. I know that's a pain, but it's better than having to reboot. I've always found sleep or hibernate modes to be a little unstable (and that's in every OS I've ever played with). Maybe it's just me doing something wrong, but I don't do anything more than have my monitor shut off anymore.
This is not a signature, it only looks that way because it's placed after all my posts.
