Hi everyone!
I installed windows 7 build 7600 on my computer and have this strange problem.
First of all, I was using XP and it's still on my compuıter. I just created a new part on my harddisk and formatted it and installed 7 there. So here is what happened:
I tried to install Windows 7 from boot but when the copying files thing finishes my dvd reader stopped reading the dvd. The harddisk light started lighting continously (still no sound from inside that it's actually doing smt) and after some 5 mins or so that light turned off and my dvd reader started reading the DVD for 2-3 secs and then the same waiting process... This went all the way from selecting language and the actual installation so I decided to install it on XP (By the way I tried burning on minimum write speed too)
When I started install on XP the installation went very smooth for a while. Then when it came to the 2nd and 3 rd restarts it again started reading the dvd for 2-3 seconds every 5 minutes.
So, it took a while (like 1.5 hours) but I ended up installing Windows 7. Then when I inserted a dvd player the same thing is happening. Wİndows 7 is locking up and the continous harddisk light and after 5 minutes or so it reads the DVD and windows is back from freezing for 3 seconds and then the same freezing.
Note 1: I have 1 DVD-RW and 1 CD-RW and the CD-RW works fine
Note 2: My DVD player works fine on XP
Note 3: I uninstalled DVD burning software from XP and don't have anything in 7 either atm
Note 4: I think it isn't something related to hardware so I didn't write my hardware components, but can write if u want
Note 5 : I was thinking of a full formatting and then installing 7, but if the problem continues in boot installation, I don't want a 4 days installation-so I didn't try it
I searched the net for a while and couldn't find a solution. I read somewhere that the IDE master-slave can be the cause of a similar problem, so I will try to change my DVD-RW from IDE2 slave to IDE0 master (currently my CD-RW is IDE0 master and HDD is IDE2 master at the moment)
So anyone have any idea what might be causing this porblem or the master-slave thingie can be a solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated

when you have a dvd burner and cdrw you need to make sure that the dvd burner is secondary master and the cdrw is secondary slave(your hdd won't slow down as it won't need to share any of the bandwidth) and set in the bios to boot from CD(The DvD Burner) also 1.5 hours for an install is way too long but i could see it at most an hour but if your specs are up there i could see 30 mins at least. also the problem could be a faulty DVD disk so get a new one and try again but if it does errors try burning at slowest speed, what are your system specs as that could help narrow the problem down.

Well I tried burning the DVD at slowest speed - no difference at all.
My system specs are
Athlon 64x2 5.2
Gigabyte GA-M56S-S3 motherboard
4x1GB DDR2 800MhZ RAM
Radeon HD3650 1GB DDR2
Seagate 7200 160GB
SecurDisc Supermulti DVD-RW
I will soon try to change the master-slave settings- will inform you when it is done

Ok, a strange discovery:
Now at the beginning my HDD and DVD-RW were both on channel 2 with HDD master and my CD-RW on Channel 0 master (which doesn't use SATA slot unlike the DVD-RW or HDD).And so I think I can't set my dvd as master and cd-rw as slave like Soldier1st said since 1 is SATA and other is not. When I inserted a DVD on windows 7, my computer completely froze instantly after it started reading the dvd - and of course the continously lighting harddisk lamp.
Then I changed to this: Channel 2 Master: HDD & Channel 3 Master: DVD-RW
and then to this: Channel 2 Master DVD-RW & Channel 3 Master: HDD
In both this situations, my Windows ran normally when I inserted a DVD, UNLESS I actually tried to open it. No autorun - nothing. Everything went normal until I clicked on the DVD and then explorer.exe locks up. But I can still do stuff and ctrl+alt+del and restart explorer.exe. It is not a complete lock up like the other situations.
Then I changed to this : Channel 3 Master: HDD & CHannel 3 Slave: DVD-RW
This time, I insert the DVD,it reads it normally and I can open the DVD and it opens the autorun screen too - in other words the DVD reading process is completely normal for some 15 seconds and then instantly again all windows freezes just like before - complete lock up this time - like the one in the beginning.
So now I don't have a smallest idea what the hell is going on in my computer.
Ah, and 1 more thing: I tried installing windows 7 on my laptop (with the same DVD I used in this) and it went completely normal.
