When I first read that I thought they were gonna open up the iPhone OS to other systems to compete with Android, but that'd be really un-Apple. I guess some other device is in the works, what would it be?Looks like the iPad will not be Apple's (AAPL) last non-iPhone device to run what we now think of as the iPhone OS.
On its company job board, Apple says it is looking to hire "a talented and inspired manager to lead a team focused on bring-up of iPhone OS on new platforms."

iPad v2 that actually includes phone (for use w/ headset or speaker phone, not using as a monster handset) and screen side camera for video chat? Home security systems? The iTūb television?
This is not a signature, it only looks that way because it's placed after all my posts.

The coverage I saw (although I haven't read the link
) mentioned that A4 chips was also moving to other devices. They did state the idea of the A4 and iPhone OS moving to other, non-Apple, devices, but also said it's probably more likely to be included in some of it's other projects or some new ones. But Apple is actually officially a mobile devices company, those 'Macs' they make are just a hobby, according to them anyway. I think Apple might be entering the budget mobile phone market (well, as budget as Apple can go) and maybe offer a more basic, or god-forbid ad-supported, iPhone OS on some cheaper hardware. You know, that $100 smartphone concept we're seeing a lot more of these days.
